Here are details of a current tender for improved broadband service……here’s hoping!
Invitation to Tender for the Supply of a Broadband Service to Kings Hill Parish Residents
Kings Hill Parish Council is inviting proposals to provide a broadband service to every residential property in the Parish, with a minimum download speed of 2Mbps.
The overall solution may take any form and use any technology the supplier desires; the supplier is required to operate their proposed solution but may either retain ownership of the equipment or pass ownership to the community.
Grants are available to cover setup costs; the ongoing service must be self-supporting. Grants will only be awarded up to the available budget; therefore there is no guarantee that a particular proposal will be taken forward.
Further details, including how to apply, are available from the Parish Council
The deadline for receipt of proposals is 5pm on Friday 28th August 2009.

Is there ay chance of finding out what proposals were offered if any?
I see there’s a full council meeting (KHPC) 16th Sept – it’s on the agenda
Has there been any progress on these proposals?
What was the outcome of the council meeting?
We’ve just moved to the area and I’m astounded at how poor the broadband service is in KH –
No 3G service either – shocking!
Try living here for 12 years, dial up only until a few years ago, there are a great many people waiting for a decent solution.
On a positive note, if you do not have one already try getting an i-plate.
QuickaNet was awarded the Parish Council tender in September 2009 and is currently in discussion with Liberty Property to determine the level of assistance Liberty are able to provide to the resident operated not-for-profit broadband solution that I have been running since 2003.
As soon as the discussions with Liberty have completed QuickaNet will be rolling out a broadband solution, minimum of 2mbps-4mbps service, with the option of cable-to-the-door capable of offering speeds up to 100mbps.
Residents of Kings Hill that are interested in the new Kings Hill Community Broadband solution should contact QuickaNet @ info@quickanet.com or 01732 871711
Pricing and availability information will be made available as soon as the discussions with Liberty have completed.
Regarding ADSL2: This technology enables higher speeds however does not extend the distance from the exchange; if anything the internet forums suggest it actually reduces the distance you can be from the exchange; resulting in a poorer service for those people already on the edge of it’s capabilities.
