Parish Council AGM Thursday 24th May – get along there with all your local issues

A lot of people who are interested in the whole school issue here on Kings Hill plan to attend this, particularly as Richard Long the local MP is apparently there from 8pm. There will be an opportunity to complete a petition, speak to the current round of parents, former free school proposers and those with some bright ideas of what kind of schools we would like to see here. Oh, and of course there will be all our hard working parish councillors and reps of other local groups too. If you care about some of the issues here, don’t miss your chance to chat with others. Times are 2 – 4pm and 7 – 8.30pm.

    Good Afternoon,

I am a resident in Kings Hill.

Could anyone potentially tell me if the Parish Council have any leverage on getting the broadband improved in Kings Hill?

    Thank you for your help

They got very involved in it in the days of Quickanet to try to get a solution, and it was debacle when Quickanet cut off the private service and then private companies Callflow and Vfast entered the scene and were greated with open arms. Since then I believe that everyone’s eyes have been pointed towards BT’s Infinity which is being rolled out around Kings Hill. I would be surprised if they spend that much time on it but it is always worth enquiring. They have certainly spent a lot of time on it in the past.

    Crawford,

If you mean can anyone get the speed of the “standard” over the phone line broadband improved its a no. We are a LONG way from the west malling exchange, and speeds of 0 (ish) to 2 meg are common.

    Options are

1 BT Infinity – if it covers your area of Kings Hill, we seem to have most of the estate covered but we still have “not spots” sigh.
2 Call Flow – Calls and broadband through your phone line “injected” from their own cabinet, gets good reviews
3 VFast – a wireless (little antenna on top of the house) solution. If you have good line of sight to one of their base stations you can get really good speeds.

Not too much detail above I am afraid as I am in a hurry, but all of the above solutions have happy customers.

    Hope this helps?

    MS

The days of slow broadband in Kings Hill are long gone for most residents, as MS indicates above. Kings Hill has extremely fast broadband available.

ADSL is, and probably always will be, slow. But hardly anyone in Kings Hills needs to use that now.

The 3 options above from MS are all fast enough, ranging from 10-25Mb speeds with Callflow and VFast, and to 75Mb with Infinity 2.

You get what you pay for though, as all of these three are about £10pm more expensive than typical cheap ADSL (BT, Sky etc).

Infinity has plans to go to 300Mb speeds, but this will probably be some years away. 75Mb is more than fast enough for the majority of people’s needs though, and I am very happy with this speed myself. (75Mb tested at my PC, but BT claim that 80Mb is being delivered to my router.)
